ChatGPT creator OpenAI has announced its commitment to working closely with the U.S. government to safeguard cutting-edge AI technology. This move comes amid concerns about foreign efforts to replicate U.S. advancements in artificial intelligence.
In a statement released on Tuesday, OpenAI revealed that Chinese firms are “constantly” attempting to leverage U.S. technology to enhance their own AI models. The company emphasized its proactive measures to secure intellectual property, including carefully controlling the capabilities of released models.
“As the leading builder of AI, we believe it’s critically important to collaborate with the U.S. government to protect the most capable models from adversaries and competitors,” OpenAI said.
National Security Alert
The announcement followed comments from the White House, which is investigating potential national security threats posed by Chinese AI companies, particularly DeepSeek.
David Sacks, the White House’s AI and Crypto Advisor, warned about a method called “distillation” that allows firms to learn and replicate AI systems from global leaders like OpenAI.
