Karnali Government Implements Digital Education Program in Local Schools

Simkot – The Karnali Province Government has initiated a groundbreaking program aimed at enhancing educational quality through the implementation of the “Chief Minister Digital Education Program.”

The program will be executed in select municipalities, including Chaurjahari and Musikot municipalities of Rukum West, and Chhedagad Municipality and Shivalaya Rural Municipality of Jajarkot. It also extends to Darma and Kapurkot rural municipalities in Salyan.

Additional areas benefiting from the program include Lekbesi Municipality in Surkhet, Aathbis Municipality in Dailekh, Narharinath Rural Municipality in Kalikot, Kanakasundari Rural Municipality in Jumla, Mugumkarmarong Rural Municipality in Mugu, Thulibheri Municipality in Dolpa, and Adanchuli Rural Municipality in Humla. Altogether, 13 municipalities have been selected for this initiative.

Each municipality will nominate one school to participate. A budget of NPR 70,000 per school has been allocated, which will be distributed by the Social Development Ministry. The selected schools will enter agreements with their respective municipalities to implement the program effectively.

This initiative builds on last year’s “One District, One Model School” program, with a refined focus on digital education. In the previous fiscal year (2080/81), NPR 140 million was allocated for model school infrastructure development under the Provincial Social Development Ministry. This year, the program has been rebranded as the “Chief Minister Digital Education Program,” emphasizing digital education as the primary goal to overcome the challenges of broader implementation in the past.

On December 19, the Provincial Cabinet approved the “Chief Minister Digital Education and Model School Program Procedure – 2081,” paving the way for program execution.

A pilot project will be carried out in the 13 selected municipalities, with NPR 100 million allocated for the current fiscal year. This budget will support the integration of the digital education program into the schools selected under last year’s model school initiative.

By prioritizing digital learning, the Karnali Government aims to revolutionize the educational landscape and enhance the teaching and learning experience across the province.
