A nationwide internet outage last night left users across Nepal facing significant disruptions. The issue affected Nepal Telecom as well as private internet service providers such as WorldLink, DishHome, Ncell, and Vianet.
According to sources, the disruption was caused by an outstanding payment of approximately NPR 6 billion owed to the Indian company Airtel for bandwidth services. This incident highlights Nepal’s reliance on Indian companies for internet connectivity.
Hari Dhakal, spokesperson for Nepal Telecom, confirmed that the issue stemmed from technical and financial dependencies on the Indian provider. Efforts are underway to investigate and resolve the problem.
The outage disrupted the daily operations of thousands of users, impacting both personal and professional activities. This incident underscores the need to ensure reliable service continuity and diversify connectivity sources.
