Nepal Telecom to Distribute 25% Shares to the Public This Fiscal Year

Nepal Telecom has announced plans to distribute 25% of its shares to the general public within this fiscal year. This announcement was made by Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, during the 21st-anniversary celebration of Nepal Telecom.

According to Minister Gurung, the current low share allocation for the general public has led to a lack of a sense of ownership among citizens. He emphasized the need for Nepal Telecom to increase the public’s shareholding to address this issue.

He also pointed out the importance of enhancing network efficiency in densely populated regions like the Madhesh province to boost the company’s revenue and improve services. Additionally, he urged the expansion of 4G services to 6,743 wards across the country, accelerating the process of digitization.

Nepal Telecom’s Role in the Digital Nepal Framework
Minister Gurung highlighted the crucial role of Nepal Telecom in laying the foundation for the Digital Nepal Framework. He described the internet as a fundamental infrastructure for e-governance and urged Nepal Telecom to prioritize its responsibility in fulfilling this goal.

He further stressed the effective utilization of the Rural Telecommunications Development Fund (RTDF) to ensure citizen-focused services, warning that failing to deliver such services would betray public trust.

” Nepal Telecom’s initiative to allocate 25% of its shares to the public is expected to strengthen its service quality and contribute significantly to the realization of the Digital Nepal vision. ”
